English Literacy Tutor Training

From Saturday, October 13, 9:00 am until 4:00 pm

Become a tutor and help adult immigrants learn English at Aquinas Literacy Center's tutor training, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the center at 1751 W. 35th St., Chicago. This is the second of a required two-part training program that also includes a 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. session on the preceding day (Friday, October 12).

Once trained, each tutor will work with a student for 90 minutes per week between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Mondays through Wednesdays or Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. based on individuals' schedules. All tutoring takes place at the center. Knowledge of another language is not required of tutors — instruction takes place in English — however tutors must be native or near-native English speakers. A total of 13 hours of training is required before becoming a tutor, including three hours following the tutor training sessions. After tutors complete training, each will receive a certificate from and six-month membership to ProLiteracy.

A one-time fee of $25 pays for the cost of tutor training materials and refreshments during the workshops. Participants should contact the center directly for registration information by contacting Sabrina Poulin at either sabrina@aqinasliteracycenter.org or (773) 927-0512.
