Comcast Supports Neighborhood Journalism Via Local Sponsorship

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO — Comcast, which is opening a new Xfinity Store later this summer in Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood, is supporting independent local news reporting and coverage by joining the McKinley Park News’ Sponsor program.

The publication, a micro-local online news source dedicated to covering a single Chicago neighborhood, fits in with Comcast’s role as a community partner, said Jack Segal, vice president for regional communications for Comcast.

“We invest in the communities where we do business and where our customers and employees live,” Segal said. “Connecting with the neighborhood through the McKinley Park News helps us share information about our company, our services and our local plans with McKinley Park residents, while supporting an essential source for local journalism.”

Working with Comcast and its showcase new Xfinity store will be transformative for the McKinley Park News, said Publisher Justin Kerr. “This is our first national-brand advertiser and sponsorship, and we’re looking forward to introducing the new Xfinity Store to the neighborhood.”

Kerr said that a lot of information about the new store is already on the website in Xfinity’s Sponsor profile. More is coming soon through a web banner campaign and Sponsor features like highlighting the store’s grand opening in neighborhood event calendars, Kerr said.

“We believe in the communities we serve and want them to thrive,” Segal said. “Local news is a resource that helps everyone by connecting residents, institutions and businesses like Comcast.”

The new Xfinity store is scheduled to open later this summer in the Riverside Square shopping center at 3145 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago.
