Chicago Park District Extends Closures

More

The Chicago Park District has released its statement on parks and facilities closures through May -- and the plan for summer programs and registration -- in its COVID-19 response page .

Some key takeaways include:
  • The parks in the McKinley Park neighborhood, including our 69-acre McKinley Park, remain open. However, like all locations, park facilities like the fieldhouse, playgrounds, bathrooms, etc. are closed. The parks are open for safe, distanced recreation.
  • Summer programs and schedules will be available to view online as of June 1, with registration tentatively planned to begin June 11-13 (pandemic permitting).
  • Although all our parks remain open, the park district will remove things like basketball rims, tennis nets and other facility elements when the public does not stay safe with social distancing requirements. So behave!

In its message, the Park District writes:

We strongly urge patrons to take precautions to protect their health and the safety of others by wearing a mask in public, frequently washing their hands for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching their face with unwashed hands and covering their noses and mouths when sneezing or coughing. Also, if you aren’t feeling well, please stay home.
