Car crimes in Beat 912, which covers most of Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood, jumped dramatically over the past month, leading the Chicago Police Department’s 9th District, officers said at the beat meeting on Wednesday, October 15, 2026.
Beats 912 and 911 had the most car crimes overall in the 9th District, said Community Policing Officer Andres Rodriguez, with many concentrated in a stretch between West 35th Street and West Pershing Road from South Western to South Albany avenues.
In the September-October reporting period, Beat 912 recorded 10 stolen vehicles, three attempted vehicle thefts and nine thefts from vehicles: a newer category covering thefts of vehicle equipment like catalytic converters and airbags, Rodriguez said.
Dragged Through Parking Lot
Beat 911, which covers the western edge of the McKinley Park neighborhood and much of the Brighton Park neighborhood to the west, recorded six car thefts and four attempts to steal a vehicle, Rodriguez said.
Robberies have remained a focus in the 9th District, Rodriguez said, including an incident on September 20, 2026, in the Riverside Square shopping plaza at 3145 S. Ashland Ave., Chicago, where an online sales meet-up resulted in a person being “dragged through the parking lot.”
White Range Rover
An individual agreed to meet a buyer there to conduct a transaction set up through an online marketplace. However, the perpetrator instead seized the item for sale and started to drive away, Rodriguez said. The seller was dragged after grabbing the perpetrator’s door handle.
The poster for the 9th District Strategic Plan Community Conversation shares meeting times, dates and locations.Rodriguez described the perpetrator as a thin white male with blue eyes driving a white Range Rover.
Exchange at Police Station
Both Rodriguez and 9th District Community Organizer Adrian Cheung noted how the public is welcome to use the 9th District police station at 3120 S. Halsted St., Chicago, to exchange goods sold through online marketplaces.
Sellers and buyers can park and meet in the parking lot at the north end of the police station, Cheung said, as well as meet inside the police station lobby.
9th District Strategic Plan
Choosing this location may deter those with bad intentions, Rodriguez said.
Cheung and Rodriguez also highlighted the upcoming 9th District Strategic Plan Community Conversation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at New Eclipse Baptist Church, 715 W. 51st St., Chicago.
New District Commander
This meeting will be a primary source for priorities of the 2027 9th District Strategic Plan: community- and data-informed policing that defines top crime targets and tracks and publishes results.
The meeting will also be an opportunity to meet new 9th District Commander James Triantafillo, a 25-year police department veteran most recently serving as captain in the 11th District, Rodriguez said.
Free Shuttle
Cheung said that the 9th District is offering a free shuttle to and from the meeting, departing promptly at 5:30 p.m. from the 9th District police station.
Those interested in taking the shuttle should RSVP online on the Community Conversations Caravan signup form on the Microsoft service, Cheung said.
Calls for Service
Beat 912 recorded 1,137 calls for service during the September-October reporting period, Rodriguez said. Police received six calls about a person with a gun and three calls of shots fired.
Beat 912 also recorded eight batteries, nine assaults, five burglaries and 20 thefts during this time, Rodriguez said.
The next Chicago Police Meeting for Beat 912 is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, conducted online.
