Ankita Mukhopadhyay, correspondent for the McKinley Park NewsCHICAGO — The McKinley Park News, a micro-local publication covering the McKinley Park neighborhood of Chicago, has added journalist Ankita Mukhopadhyay to its staff as a freelance neighborhood news correspondent.
“Ankita’s experience covering the COVID-19 pandemic and social and business issues internationally lays the groundwork for all kinds of reporting, including here in McKinley Park,” said McKinley Park News Publisher Justin Kerr. “We’re excited about the opportunity to work with this talented young journalist.”
Mukhopadhyay’s background has included reporting in India for the Deutsche Welle (DW) newspaper, where she covered social justice issues and business news. In 2020, the National Geographic Society awarded Mukhopadhyay a grant to support her coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, Mukhopadhyay is a graduate student in the Media Innovation and Content Strategy program at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Media and Integrated Marketing Communications. One of her assignments is to report on the McKinley Park neighborhood.
"I am really excited to be contributing,” Mukhopadhyay said. “I am looking forward to covering social justice issues in the McKinley Park community and am particularly interested in digital literacy and access.”
Kerr said to watch the McKinley Park News for coming stories from Mukhopadhyay that are already under development. “We’re very happy to welcome Ankita to our staff as a neighborhood news correspondent,” he said.
