News and events for Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO, May 23, 2019 — The McKinley Park News, a hyper-local online publication exclusively covering the McKinley Park neighborhood of Chicago, has announced its Institutions program to serve the community’s residents and organizations. Built on the publication's interactive membership system, the Institutions program enables qualified sharing of community events and news while also providing a unique database of community resources.

"The dozens of community groups, non-profit organizations, schools, elected officials and public service offices engaged as Institutions represent the vanguard of leadership and services for the neighborhood," said McKinley Park News Publisher Justin Kerr. "Nowhere else can residents find this collection of leading providers for our neighborhood's programs, benefits, networking and volunteering."

The Neighborhood Institutions page on the McKinley Park News at https://mckinleypark.news/neighborhood/institutions lists all participating Institutions and their top information. Each listing links to a full profile that provides more detail: information an Institution can manage through its account after logging in.

Institutions can also submit and edit their own event listings in the publication's comprehensive neighborhood event calendar, Kerr said, and they have free access to other website features like classified ads. "As trusted members of our community, Institutions enjoy special capabilities and extra privileges on the site," Kerr said.

For years, local community organization Aquinas Literacy Center has engaged with the McKinley Park News to promote its literacy programs and volunteer tutor training events. This has been effective for reaching the McKinley Park neighborhood, said Aquinas Literacy Center Volunteer Coordinator Sabrina Poulin.

"Being a part of the Institutions program on the McKinley Park News has helped increase our online visibility and prominence in our community," Poulin said. "This has enabled us to recruit more volunteer English tutors to better serve our adult learners."

Although the Neighborhood Institutions database is as comprehensive as possible, Kerr said more local Institutions are welcome to join, and that he expects the database to grow further. "There are no costs or obligations for Institutions to participate," Kerr said. "Also, this database of key community information is and will remain freely accessible to the public."

Any neighborhood community organizations, public institutions or other entities interested in joining the Institutions program can send email to info@mckinleypark.news or call (312) 560-1115 to get more information and sign up, Kerr said.
