Silver Skates Speed Skating Competition
The local qualifying meet for the 2019 Silver Skates Speed Skating Competition returns 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019, to the McKinley Park ice rink, 3801 S. Western Boulevard, Chicago. At this event, children and adults race to qualify for the citywide speed skating championship at McFetridge Sports Center in late January.
Registration begins at 5 p.m., with races to start at 6 p.m. The races will be open on a first-come, first-served basis for 20 participants from each age group and gender. All participants must wear gloves, long sleeves and a helmet. (Bicycle, inline skating and hockey helmets are all OK.) Skates and helmets will be available free of charge.
Up to five top qualifiers in the childrens division will advance to the citywide championship. Adult skaters 18 and over will race immediately after the childrens races; adults do not need to qualify to participate.
Stop by the rink beforehand to pick up a registration form to complete prior to the skating meet. All participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the form in order to participate.
