2018 Southwest Side Candidate Forum

The 12th Ward Independent Political Organization presents the 2018 Southwest Side Candidate Forum from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2017, at Crosspoint Community Church, 3659 S. Honore St., Chicago. Connect with candidates running in local races in the 2018 Primary Election and get their take on local issues relevant to the Southwest Side and the McKinley Park neighborhood.

2018 SouthWest Side Candidates Forum forwebCandidates for several races will be present, including those vying for Illinois 3rd Congressional District and 4th Congressional District in the State Senate, Illinois State Representatives for the 1st and 2nd districts, Cook County Commissioner for the 7th District, and Judge for the Illinois 14th Judicial Subcircuit.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Alma Anaya, candidate for 7th District Cook County Commissioner
     
  • Beatriz Fraustro-Sandoval, candidate for Subcircuit Judge of the 14th District of Cook County
     
  • Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, candidate for U.S. Congress for Illinois' 4th District
     
  • Theresa Mah, candidate for State Representative for Illinois' 2nd District 
     
  • Marie Newman, candidate for U.S. Congress for Illinois' 3rd District
     
  • Aaron Ortiz, candidate for State Representative for Illinois' 1st District

Other invited candidates include Marina Ammendola, candidate for 14th District Subcircuit Judge, Dan Burke, Illinois 1st District State Representative candidate, Dan Lipinski, candidate for U.S. Congress for Illinois' 3rd District, and Angie Sandoval, candidate for 7th District Cook County Commissioner.

The event also promises an overview of the "Lift the Ban" on rent control referendum that will be on the ballot, as well as a focus on the issue of gentrification on the Southwest Side.
