Fantasyscape Opening Reception

Check out the artwork of McKinley Park neighborhood-based artist Sarita Garcia at the Fantasyscape Opening Reception, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Adler & Floyd Gallery, 3537 S. Western Boulevard, Chicago.

The free reception kicks off Garcia's exhibition, Fantasyscape: Saturating the Familiar, which runs through March 16 at Adler & Floyd Gallery. Appointments to see the exhibition outside of the opening reception can be set up by sending an inquiry to contact@adlerandfloyd.com. 

Informed by architectural spaces, Garcia’s work references street objects and vendor materiality through the use of textiles, prints and repeated patterns. Through archiving images of vernacular culture such as signage, foods, markets and shop stands, these recordings become a catalog to document the familiar. By fragmenting such imagery of cultural hubs, Garcia abstracts to create “fantasyscapes” that remix the reality of these spaces.
