The Montessori Foundations of Chicago, a McKinley Park neighborhood-based preschool and kindergarten, has achieved the Silver Circle of Quality designation from ExceleRate Illinois, a state program that establishes and certifies standards for early childhood education. With the award, the State of Illinois recognizes that the school meets or exceeds standards for teaching, the educational environment, administration and training and education.

"Being recognized by ExceleRate is a source of pride and affirmation not only for our school and the Montessori community, but for our entire community," said school principal Beata (Betty) Skorusa. "It's an assurance for our current families, visitors and prospective parents."

The school, located at 3575 S. Archer Ave., is one of 14 Montessori schools statewide to be recognized by ExceleRate. Skorusa noted that school administrators and teachers have been working for about two years to apply for and meet the specific requirements of the program.

Other ExceleRate-certified early childhood centers in the McKinley Park neighborhood include the Velma Thomas Early Childhood Center at 3625 S. Hoyne Ave. (Gold Circle of Quality), Nathanael Greene Elementary School at 3525 S. Honore St. (Gold Circle of Quality), LIttle Tykes Pre-School at 1711 W. 35th St. (Silver Circle of Quality) and Jessica Carvajal at 1743 W. 38th St. (Licensed Circle of Quality).

ExceleRate Illinois is administered through the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (INCCRRA) under the joint direction of the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood Development, the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Illinois State Board of Education.
