McKinley Park Advisory Council (MPAC) logoContinuing its mission of supporting McKinley Park, the McKinley Park Advisory Council (MPAC) elected new officers at its meeting on Sept. 12, 2016, at the McKinley Park field house. New officers are President Veronica O'Malley, Vice President Samantha Hertel, Secretary Katie Flores and Treasurer Heather Breems.

MPAC has been extremely active over the past year, with lineups of both special programs and ongoing activities. This has included a Latin and hip hop dance class for adults and teens, a poetry slam, Painting in the Park sessions for kids and adults, ecology classes, premier performances like Midnight Circus, and stewardship days for cleaning up the park and lagoon.

MPAC relaunched the McKinley Park Farmers Market this year with weekly sales of goods and fresh produce accompanied by live performances from musicians and dancers, plus kids activities and yoga. MPAC members have also been vocal advocates for McKinley Park, regularly representing it at Chicago Park District budget meetings and spearheading park programs and initiatives.

Upcoming programs include a creative writing class, an adult yoga class and more Painting in the Park classes. Special events on tap include a fundraiser at Laguinatas Tap Room on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, a kids pumpkin patch for Halloween and two blowout performances by The Mariachi Heritage Foundation and the Kelly High School Marching Trojans at the final farmers market of the year this Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016.

The groups meets at 7 p.m. every second Monday of the month in the blue room of the McKinley Park field house, 2210 W. Pershing Road, Chicago, with the next meeting set for Oct. 10, 2016. All are welcome to attend.
