Eric Crawford, 13, Succumbs to Injuries from Drive-By Shooting in McKinley Park

The Cook County Health department shared word of the passing of 13-year-old Eric Crawford, who was shot the morning of Sunday, May 16, 2021, on the 3700 block of South Wood Street in Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood.

Crawford was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was placed on life support. According to media reports, he passed on Tuesday, May 18, hours after life support was suspended.

"The family of 13-year-old Eric Crawford is grateful for the support and prayers they have received from area residents," said a statement from the Cook County Health department.

As previously reported here in the McKinley Park News, eyewitness accounts noted a shooter in a white SUV fleeing the scene. Also as previously reported here, police and the slain teen-ager's mother pointed to possible gang involvement in the drive-by shooting.

Crawford's family urges anyone with information on the shooting to contact the Chicago Police Department, the health department statement said.
