News and events for Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood

The week ahead in McKinley Park promises great opportunities for civic engagement, fun kids and family activities, and ways to keep your New Year's resolutions to get fit.

  • Kids fun this week centers around our excellent library, with events like LEGO at the Library, 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, Art Club at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, and Games Day from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 20.

  • Does your pooch want a dog park in McKinley Park? Show your support via the McKinley Park Dog Park Fundraiser between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Sunday, January 21: Grab dinner at the Chipotle at 1132 S. Clinton St., mention the dog park and 50 percent of the proceeds will go toward building the park (the first of its kind on the South Side).
  • The Local School Council for high-performing Evergreen Academy Middle School meets at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, at the school, 3537 S. Paulina St. Get involved as a parent or community member and help manage oversight of finances and performance for the school.

  • Hey! All you jabronies who have been finishing off the leftover holiday cheese from the comfort of your couch will benefit from some fresh air, exercise and slap-shot action on McKinley Park's happening ice rink, 3801 S. Western Blvd. Our ice rink calendar lists your options for its Wednesday-Sunday schedule: Hit the ice for lessons, open skating and hockey lessons and games. Don't have skates? Rentals are available.
