Illinois 2nd District State Representative Theresa Mah received a surprise on Saturday, January 20, at the open house for her new 2nd District office. Representatives from the McKinley Park Civic Association notified her she'd been honored with the William H. G. Toms Community Service Award, given each year to a leading community member.

Mah will receive the award at the 47th McKinley Park Civic Association Annual Banquet and Awards, which takes place the afternoon of Sunday, March 4. In addition to Mah, the association will honor local Outstanding Educators for their service to the neighborhood, a tradition at the banquet since 1993.

Tickets for the banquet cost $25 ($28 after February 14) and will be available at the next meeting of the association, 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 7, at the library, 1915 W. 35th Street.
