The geographic center of Chicago here in McKinley Park plays host to a major political event this Saturday, February 10. Leading candidates in the upcoming March 20 primary election, including Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, Marie Newman, Theresa Mah, Alma Anaya and others, will speak from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the 2018 Southwest Side Candidate Forum. Sponsored by the 12th Ward Independent Political Organization, the forum takes place at Crosspoint Community Church at 37th and Honore streets; it even offers free childcare.
Also on Saturday, Chicago Blackhawks Hockey Clinics provide instruction to kids who want to learn how to play hockey. Hit the McKinley Park ice rink starting at 11 a.m. and get free lessons along with available equipment to use and a complimentary Chicago Blackhawks jersey. But act fast: Reservations are required.
If you haven't gotten your ticket to the McKinkey Park Civic Association's annual banquet on March 4, the group's meeting this Wednesday evening is your best chance to reserve your spot. The meeting will also play host to presenters who will speak on pending developments at the former Wrigley factory on 35th Street and Ashland Avenue. Neighborhood group meetings continue on Thursday evening, February 8, with the monthly Hoyne Park Advisory Council meeting at the Hoyne Park field house.
This week, the McKinley Park public library again plays host to many events for young people, including LEGO at the Library at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Teen Chess at 1 p.m. on Wednesday and Games Day on Saturday afternoon. This is in addition to ongoing storytimes: Nightfall Story Time on Monday evenings, Little Learners Story Time on Friday mornings and the occasional Sensory Story Time, set for this Thursday morning.
These are just some of the great neighborhood events happening in McKinley Park this week. Check the full calendar, featured events, showcase events and events dashboard for more.
