The Brighton Kelly Baseball Little League chapter, which covers Little League players from the McKinley Park neighborhood west of Ashland Avenue, is gearing up for its 2018 season with a series of signup events and a call for volunteer coaches, managers and umpires.

Signups for the Little League team, which regularly practices in McKinley Park and plays many games in nearby Kelly Park, is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on coming Saturdays in February, including February 10, February 17 and February 24. Two locations offer registration at these times: the Gage Park field house at 2415 W. 55th St. and Kelly High School (through door No. 5) at 42nd Street and California Avenue.

Registration fees cover 12 games, a uniform and trophies for the players. At signup, at least one parent or legal guardian must be present and provide three proofs of residence and the child's birth certificate.

The Little League chapter is also seeking more volunteers to assist this season: The team is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that is entirely volunteer run. Coaches, managers and umpires are needed, and anyone interested is encouraged to contact Brighton Kelly Baseball President Michael Rodriguez at or (773) 531-4534.

For more information on registering for the season and the signup sessions, contact Rodriguez or Yesenia Conde, who is reachable at (872) 235-3541.

"Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program aides players in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being," Rodriguez said. "Brighton Kelly Baseball relies 100 percent on its parent volunteers to coach and to operate the league successfully."
