Recycle Your Christmas Tree at McKinley Park
Christmas tree recycling returns again to Chicago's McKinley Park, offering pick-up of residents' holiday trees from the parkway next to the McKinley Park field house at 2210 W. Pershing Road, Chicago.
Recycling through this Chicago Park District program continues through Saturday, January 22, 2022. McKinley Park regularly has hosted Christmas tree recycling and is one of dozens of park locations supporting the program.
Trees will be mulched for use in Chicago parks, as well as mulch made available for Chicago residents' use. McKinley Park is not one of the six mulch pickup locations; the closest is Mt. Greenwood Park at 3721 W. 111th St., Chicago.
Natural Trees Only
All extra and non-natural material should be removed from trees before dropping them off for recycling. This includes ornaments, lights, tinsel, stands and any plastic or bags used for wrapping or transport. Also not accepted are garlands, wreaths or trees with flocking.
Every year, the Chicago Christmas tree recycling program accepts thousands of trees, keeping hundreds of thousands of pounds of waste out of landfills. In 2020, the program recycled 22,236 Christmas trees, a 25 percent increase from 2019.
