Civic Association Celebrates Top Teachers, Leaders at Banquet

The McKinley Park Civic Association feted outstanding local educators and leaders at its 47th annual banquet, held on Sunday, March 4, at Polonia Banquets.

Nine local teachers received honors as Outstanding Educators of the Year, and Illinois 2nd District State Rep. Theresa Mah accepted her 2018 William H.G. Toms Community Service Award.

The packed event drew dozens of neighbors and fans of the McKinley Park neighborhood. A number of leading local politicoes attended, including the cooperative progressive candidate slate of Jesus "Chuy" Garcia, Theresa Mah, Alma Anaya and Beatriz Fraustro-Sandoval, all of whom are facing the March 20 primary election.

The annual awards ceremony and dinner is the primary fund-raiser for the assocation, which meets throughout the year and spearheads neighborhood initiatives and activities, including the popular Memorial Day parade. Its next meeting is tonight, Wednesday, March 7, at the library; next month's meeting is slated for April 4.
