Community Groups, Senior Activities, Dining and Punk Rock Lined Up for McKinley Park

The McKinley Park neighborhood enjoys a spectrum of entertainment, civic and community events this week, including Dine and Discuss: The Adrian Dominican Sisters in McKinley Park, 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at Aquinas Literacy Center. (Reservations are required for this free event.) Then, later that evening, take a cultural 180 and rock out at Otro Ritmo: South Side Punk NIght at One City Tap, featuring two live bands and multiple DJs.

The McKinley Park Advisory Council Meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 12, will determine group leaders for the next year with officer elections. On Wednesday evening, March 14, the CAPS Meeting for Beat 912 highlights local crime issues and provides a way for the community to connect with the Chicago Police Department.

Seniors will find plenty to do this week in McKinley Park, including 12th Ward Alderman George Cardenas' Annual Senior Appreciation Bingo, 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, at the McKinley Park field house. Gaming continues Wednesday night at the Blessed Sacrament Parish Bingo games. Then, the weekly Walking Club for seniors meets on Thursday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at the field house.

Local school councils help with essential oversight for Chicago Public Schools. The Greene Local School Council Meeting on Tuesday afternoon and the Evergreen Local School Council Meeting on Wednesday morning provide opportunities for the public to get involved with school support and financing for these two neighborhood schools.
