News and events for Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood

Want a free haircut? Come to the William McKinley American Legion Post 231 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022.

Of course, you won’t have any hair when you leave, but it’s all for a good cause: to support childhood brain cancer research.

The Chicago Police Department's 9th District is sponsoring the event in conjunction with the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a charity that focuses on funding child cancer research to cover the "funding gap" that sees more money directed to adult cancer research.

The head shaving takes place in the post's parking lot at 1956 W. 35th St. in Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood.

Some of the St. Baldrick’s victims, er, I mean haircut recipients, are raising money from friends and families for the honor of having their heads shaved. Or walk in on April 9, make your own donation, and walk out completely shorn.

Those who cannot attend the event can still donate through the event's web page on the St. Baldrick's website.
