Baseball Season Start, Earth Day Planting and Community Meetings Lined Up for Neighborhood

Omega Delta Youth Baseball & Softball League gets their season off to celebratory start on Saturday, April 21, with their Omega Delta Baseball Opening Day festivities. This includes a parade through the neighborhood starting at 11 a.m at the Target store at 33rd Street and Damen Avenue and ending at Hoyne Park, where the league, neighbors and friends can enjoy a full day of baseball games and fun.

The McKinley Park Advisory Council is calling for all hands on deck for their Earth Day Planting on Sunday, April 22. Many volunteers are needed to help gets plants in the ground in McKinley Park's newly expanded natural area on the east end of the park.

The monthly McKinley Park Development Council Meeting takes place at Aquinas Literacy Center at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18. Attend the meeting to get involved in neighborhood economic, cultural and social development, including the council's creation of a neighborhood plan with the help of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning.

It's a busy week for school governance, with Local School Council elections set for April 18. The Velma Thomas Local School Council Meeting is set for Tuesday, April 17, and the Evergreen Local School Council Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18.

The McKinley Park branch of the Chicago Public Library again presents its LEGO at the Library series, this time at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, when students can face off against different LEGO building challenges, or just attend and have fun building LEGOs.
