Enjoy Fathers Day Fun, Connect with Community Groups This Week in McKinley Park

Published June 11, 2018

The neighborhood's largest park, McKinley Park, will be abuzz with activity over the next week, centering around the upcoming Fathers Day weekend. The McKinley Park Farmers Market again offers fresh eats and more from an expanded lineup of vendors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fathers Day, Sunday, June 17. At noon that day, the McKinley Park Farmers Market Concert: Vivian Garcia showcases the singer's live vocal and instrumental talents. After the concert, the season's first Kidical Mass kicks off at 1:15 p.m. for a family bike ride through the neighborhood.

The June edition of Otro Ritmo: South Side Punk Night is set to again bring together neighbors and music fans for some sweet sets — this time from guests DJ Spunk and DJ Tallboy. The fun starts at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at One City Tap, and will include drink specials and additional spinning from stalwart in-house DJs Malice and Orno.

McKinley Park is also busy with support and planning this week, starting with the McKinley Park Advisory Council Meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 11. Help clean up the park (and get it ready for Fathers Day events) by volunteering at the McKinley Park Stewardship Day, 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 16. Also on Saturday morning at McKinley Park, supporters of Thomas Kelly High School can participate or cheer in the 5K Kelly Dash, a fund-raiser for senior scholarships.

Get involved with fighting neighborhood crime at the consistently well-attended CAPS Meeting for Beat 912, held at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesdays at St. Maurice Church hall. Other civic group meetings this week include the Hoyne Park Advisory Council Meeting, 7 p.m. on Thursday, and the Evergreen Local School Council Meeting, at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12.

These are just some of the great neighborhood events happening in McKinley Park this week. Check the full calendar, featured events, showcase events and events dashboard for more.
