Illinois 1st District State Senator Antonio "Tony" Muñoz and his senior baseball outing guests get ready to board the bus for the White Sox game on June 14.

The Chicago White Sox lost, but the senior attendees won, at a community baseball outing on June 14 hosted by Illinois 1st District State Senator and Assistant Majority Leader Antonio "Tony" Muñoz. The senator and about 60 seniors enjoyed lunch then boarded a bus from Our Lady of Good Counsel Church to catch the game and discuss their community needs.

"These are people that are so invested in their communities," Muñoz said, adding that it was important to not forget seniors and make sure their needs are met. Healthcare was a primary topic at the outing, and seniors received healthcare resources, including a health log book, instructions for dealing with health emergencies and important primary contact information for healthcare support.

“For so long, people like this have worked so hard to make our community better," Muñoz said. "I am happy to treat them to an afternoon like this."

Muñoz admitted the game could have been better had the Sox not lost 5-2 to the Cleveland Indians, but he and the senior guests really enjoyed the beautiful weather and especially the two-run home run from Jose Abreu in the first inning.

Getting input from seniors is very important and makes him a more effective legislator, Muñoz said. "I am very appreciative of their feedback."
