Bubbly Creek, Pigasus, Movies, Politicking and Karaoke Round Out Full Week in McKinley Park

Delve into the foetid history and fascinating future potential of the McKinley Park neighborhood's befouled eastern border at Bubbly Creek: Past, Present and Future, on Wednesday evening, August 22, at the Chicago Maritime Museum. The McKinley Park Development Council is sponsoring this panel discussion, which includes free admission to this fascinating and significant local museum, as well as neighborhood networking and complimentary refreshments.

Marz Community Brewing Co. continues its events series with a look back at the Yippie political party's nomination of Pigasus for President 50 years ago: The Pigasus Beer Release and Pat Thomas Reading on Saturday, August 25, features Thomas sharing passages from his new biography Did It! From Yippie To Yuppie: Jerry Rubin, An American Revolutionary, plus the release of Marz's accompanying Pigasus beer.

Marz is also home to one of this week's two karaoke stands: On Thursday night, August 23, the brewery hosts Karaoke on Marz, its biweekly karaoke "freak out." The next night, Friday, August 24, singing fans can head to Karaoke Night at One City Tap, which is now a standing Friday night event. Marz also notably continues its Jazz and Ale with the Jazzeros residency the night of Wednesday, August 22.

The McKinley Park neighborhood is the heart of Chicago's progressive political revolution, and local organizers and influencers will be rubbing elbows and clinking glasses at the IPO Social on the evening of Thursday, August 23, at One City Tap. Join the 12th Ward Independent Political Organization and the 25th Ward Independent Political Organization for a night of political networking and camaraderie.

The McKinley Park Farmers Market continues its weekly offering of high-quality local food and goods on Sunday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in McKinley Park. The Farmers Market Concert: Low End Theory Drum Ensemble brings live djembe drum beats to the park from noon to 1:15 p.m.

Two films will light up park evenings this week: Movies in the Parks: A Dog's Purpose brings this film to a free screening at McKinley Park at dusk on Tuesday, August 21. Movies in the Parks: Brave projects this popular animated feature the night of Sunday, August 26, at Hoyne Park.
