Civic Association Meeting, Folkloric Music Concert Herald Summer's End in McKinley Park

The neighborhood's longest-serving community group returns from its summer break for the McKinley Park Civic Association Meeting on Wednesday evening, September 5. Join association members, neighbors and friends for community updates and a presentation from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning's Ricardo Lopez. Lopez will discuss the under-construction neighborhood development plan, which is currently soliciting community feedback.

The weekend concerts continue in McKinley Park with the McKinley Park Farmers Market Concert: Ida y Vuelta at noon on Sunday, September 9. The musical group will perform a fusion of African, Spanish and indigenous folk music called Son Jarocho that is native to the Veracruz region of Mexico. The concert runs adjacent to the McKinley Park Farmers Market, which offers fresh produce and goods from local purveyors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through October.

The McKinley Park branch of the Chicago Public Library continues several events series this week, including Games Day on Saturday afternoon, September 8, when teens and older gamers face off over new and classic games provided by the library.

A Creating Resumes Class at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, at the library will help job-seekers prep a winning resume; older folks can get a hand with using a computer at the Senior Computer Workshop on Thursday afternoon, September 6. Young children and their caregivers will enjoy a special Story Time the morning of Thursday, September 6, as well as the ongoing Little Learners Story Time on Friday mornings.

Bethany Baptist Church kicks off their AWANA Youth Group this Wednesday, September 5. This is a weekly evening session of youth-centric games and religious study that runs to November 21.
