Punk Out at One City Tap, Step Out at Marz This Week in McKinley Park

It's been a year since One City Tap lit the fuse on McKinley Park's nightlife with their iconic Otro Ritmo punk music night, hosted monthly at the neighborhood's sole tavern. This Saturday, October 6, help them celebrate at Otro Ritmo: South Side Punk Night One Year Anniversary, a blowout of top punk DJs and live music the likes of which has never before landed in McKinley Park. Live performances by Primitive Teeth, Riesgo and Orion join stacks and tracks from DJ Hot 'n' Ready, DJ Sniper Couture & Her Buck Boys and stalwart ongoing hosts DJ Malice and DJ Orno. Food trucks, raffles and giveaways round out this can't-miss event.

Marz Community Brewing Company continues expansion of its brewing operations alongside the entertainment it's bringing to the tap room. Jazz on Marz with The Jazzeros continues the jazz group's residency on Wednesday nights, when they swing out between 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., including this Wednesday, October 3. Also this week, DJ Glenn Russell spins on Friday night, October 5, and DJ Tony Media gets a stand on Saturday, October 6.

The McKinley Park Civic Association Meeting brings together members of the neighborhood's longest-serving community group this Wednesday, October 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the McKinley Park public library. Attend the meeting to connect with the community and get the latest neighborhood scuttlebutt from the well-informed membership and regular presenters who often speak at the meetings.

McKinley Park's public library continues its event series in October, including the recurring LEGO at the Library at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2. Gamers can rejoice at the recurrence of Games Day, the afternoon of Saturday, October 6, when teens and adults face off over new and classic board games.

The Velma Thomas Local School Council Meeting brings together school and community representatives to review administration and funding for this highly regarded neighborhood preschool. Join the meeting and help out at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 2.

This is the last month for the McKinley Park Farmers Market, which offers fresh produce, meats, cheeses, coffee and other goods through a vendor lineup that gets bigger every year. Get some of the last fresh goods of the season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, at the William McKinley memorial in McKinley Park.
