And then there were two.

Two candidates, that is, for the 12th Ward aldermanic seat in the February 28, 2023, municipal election. They are Interim Alderwoman Anabel Abarca, of 2266 W. 37th St., and Julia Ramirez, of 3949 S. Rockwell St., Chicago.

Joseph Mercado was removed from the ballot after Abarca’s challenge was upheld that Mercado had not filed a statement of economic interests.

In the 11th Ward, which includes portions of McKinley Park on the west, seven candidates are running for the seat currently held by Interim Alderwoman Nicole Lee. She was named alderwoman in March 2022, replacing Patrick Daley-Thompson, who resigned in February following conviction on federal tax fraud charges.
