Neighborhood residents can get access to a range of health services this upcoming Saturday, March 23, at the third annual Health Fair for the Illinois House 2nd District, which is represented by McKinley Park's own Theresa Mah. The event, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Leonard M. Louie field house at 1700 S. Wentworth Ave. in the nearby Pilsen neighborhood, features a range of health and personal services residents can enjoy for free.
“Health care access is a concern for many families, as doctors visits can be expensive and sometimes take many weeks to schedule," Mah said. “I hope community members from McKinley Park will take advantage of the free services provided at our health fair to identify potential risks to their health and learn about how to improve their overall wellness.”
In addition to dental and vision screenings, the Health Fair will also let residents check their glucose and cholesterol levels, and get their BMI number, which measures healthy weight ranges. Free haircuts and manicures are also included, as well as information about healthy lifestyles and improving overall wellness.
“Promoting health equity contributes to a thriving community,” said Mah, who hosts the event annually. “I hope this event helps people catch any health problems in the earlier stages so they can be addressed and managed.”
In addition to representing the McKinley Park neighborhood, Mah's 2nd District also covers the Pilsen, Chinatown, Bridgeport, Brighton Park and Back of the Yards neighborhoods. She is currently serving her second term as state representative.
