Dive Into Spring with Celebration, Birding This Week in McKinley Park

Our neighborhood's glorious McKinley Park plays host to spring kickoff events this upcoming weekend, including the One Earth - One Community Celebration from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 27. Join McKinley Park Advisory Council members and neighbors for a park stewardship clean-up in the morning, then jam out at the drumming celebration at the field house, followed by a percussion parade through the park.

Also on Saturday, April 27, the Chicago Park District presents the Birding Class: Save Our Birds as part of a series of education and volunteer sessions that focus on McKinley Park's role in providing important habitat for migratory birds.

Earlier in the week, Neighbors for Environmental Justice hosts a Park Space and Environmental Justice discussion on Thursday evening, April 25, at the McKinley Park field house.

Hoofers can hop to it at One City Tap's dance-centric events, including Latin Nights with Sandra Magaña on Thursday, April 25. This week, Sandra instructs in the salsa style of dance. On Saturday, April 27, the weekly Sabado Gigante dance party rocks the tavern until its 3 a.m. closing time.

Karaoke lovers will find double trouble in the neighborhood this week, starting with Karaoke on Marz on Thursday, April 25, at Marz Community Brewing Company. The next night, Friday, April 26, head to One City Tap for their weekly Karaoke Night.

Jazz on Marz with the Jazzeros returns for its weekly stand at Marz Brewing on Wednesday, April 24.

Both the Velma Thomas Local School Council Meeting and the Evergreen Local School Council Meeting fall on the morning of Tuesday, April 23. LSC meetings like these offer the opportunity for the public to connect with funding and administrative oversight at these two leading neighborhood schools.

The McKinley Park public library is again one of the best places for kids and families this week, with ongoing programs like Nightfall Story Time on Monday evenings and Exploratorium on Wednesday, April 24.
