The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert regarding a string of burglaries taking place in May in the McKinley Park neighborhood. In each incident, burglars used force to gain entry to a residence or garage, then stole items before escaping undetected.
The burglaries took place at the following times and locations:
- Between the hours of 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, May 10, in the 3600 block of South Seeley Avenue
- At 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, in the 3500 block of South Paulina Avenue
- Between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. between May 16 and May 23 in the 3600 block of South Hoyne Avenue
- At 5 a.m. in the 3500 block of South Hoyne Avenue
Police have not issued a description or other information about the burglary suspects. Anyone with information about the crimes can call the Area Central Bureau of Detectives at (312) 747-8382.
Incident numbers for the burglaries are JC-258205, JC-260653, JC-274758 and JC-282324. The reference number for this pattern of crimes is P19-1-169.
Police recommend residents take a number of measures to protect themselves and assist in solving these crimes, including securing doors and windows, providing any video surveillance evidence, and reporting suspicious activity immediately.
As noted many times at the Beat 912 meetings of the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS), the best protection that is most feared by burglars is engaged neighbors who keep an eye out for each other and report suspicious activity.
The next CAPS Meeting for Beat 912 is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at St. Maurice Church hall, 3625 S. Hoyne Ave.
