New Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot visited the McKinley Park branch of the Chicago Public Library on Monday, June 24, to kick off the library system's Summer Learning Challenge. While there, she acknowledged the central role that libraries play in communities, especially for children.
"Libraries are where magic happens," Lightfoot said. "It's where kids can come ... and use their imaginations for endless possibilities to really grow themselves."

The Chicago Public Library's Summer Learning Challenge engages city kids with ongoing opportunities over the summer for learning, reading and play. Children up to 13 years of age can keep a log book to become one of the Explorers at Play, with successfully met challenges and program participation leading to prizes and giveaways.
Upcoming Summer Learning Challenge events at the McKinley Park library include LEGO at the Library, the Musical Play-cation with Laura Doherty, Kids @ Play, Team Tween, CircEsteem, sTEAM Players and more. See the library's list of events for all Summer Learning Challenge and other library events.
