Turkey Raffle Offers Thanksgiving Birds to McKinley Park, 12th Ward Residents

Published November 6, 2019

12th Ward Alderman George Cardenas is again hosting his annual Thanksgiving Turkey Raffle from the 12th Ward office in the McKinley Park neighborhood, Cardenas announced. More than 2,000 turkeys are ready to be donated to area families in a giveaway that's open for entries until Thursday, November 21.

"It is important to me that we do our part to ensure every home has the essentials to have a happy and joyous holiday," Cardenas said. "Over the years, the Turkey Raffle has become something families can rely on and trust."

The raffle, now in its 16th year, lets residents sign up to receive a free turkey by calling the 12th Ward office at (773) 523-8250 or visiting the office at 3476 S. Archer Ave.

Winners are required to be present to pick up their turkey and provide current identification showing residence in the 12th Ward, which covers most of the McKinley Park neighborhood. One turkey is offered per household, while supplies last.

“Thanksgiving is a time where my staff and I look back over the past year and think about all of the things we are grateful for," Cardenas said. The raffle and also Cardenas' Community Thanksgiving Day Brunch on Thursday, November 28, are a way to say thank you to 12th Ward residents, he said.
