The sky was cloudy, but smiles were bright among neighbors gathered to honor veterans during the McKinley Park Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 27, 2024.
The parade, co-sponsored by William McKinley American Legion Post 231 and the McKinley Park Civic Association, kicked off on 35th Street near Damen Avenue and made a loop south back to Damen and 35th.
After the parade, the American Legion post hosted a ceremony to honor veterans and served hot dogs and refreshments.
The parade included and featured war veterans, politicians, church and school groups, bands from Thomas Kelly College Prep and Horizon Science Academy - McKinley Park, and families with kids of all ages.
