The National Latino Education Institute (NLEI) in the McKinley Park neighborhood of Chicago is offering signups for the next session of its CONSTRUCT program, a free, 10-week-long training program that provides essential skills for entry into the construction industry and related fields. Open to high school graduates 18 years and older, CONSTRUCT is one of several programs the non-profit school uses to benefit its students by enabling access to well-paying careers.

"The National Latino Education Institute hopes to provide individuals of low income with educational training to help them grow and achieve economic independence," said Maria Chavez, community relations manager at the school. More than 20 companies support the program, she said, benefiting from high-quality employees hired through CONSTRUCT's post-graduation job placement.

The program boasts a job placement success rate of over 90 percent.

The current session of CONSTRUCT — which takes place once a year — begins on February 5, and all interested individuals are encouraged to get in touch for more information, Chavez said. In addition to a high school diploma or GED, applicants must have a valid driver's license, pass drug and background checks, and go through an admissions interview.

Classes take place on the institute's campus at 2011 W. Pershing Road, Chicago, and students also gain on-the-job experience through shadowing experienced tradespeople at work sites.

Interested applicants can sign up at one of the CONSTRUCT Program Enrollment sessions at the school, which take place daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or call (773) 247-0707, ext. 264.
