A driver in a late model beige pickup truck has been following women walking alone in the 3400 block of South Oakley Avenue, a young woman reported at the March 12, 2025, Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) meeting for Chicago Police Department Beat 912.

The driver follows female residents walking their dogs or walking to work, the meeting attendee said, and appears to be “casing the area.” Once, the driver got out of his truck and approached a woman, but she was able to hurriedly enter her home.

At the meeting, Chicago Police Department 9th District Community Policing Officer Christopher Gonzalez urged anyone affected to immediately call 911 with a description of the truck and its license plate, and to get to safety.

ATV in the Parks

A driver riding an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) has also been menacing people in Hoyne Park and McKinley Park, another meeting attendee said. This young Hispanic male rides his ATV on park walkways, narrowly missing pedestrians, and pops wheelies and does other stunts on baseball and soccer fields.

Anyone seeing this individual riding his ATV should call 911, Gonzalez said.

No Shootings

McKinley Park Supervisor Brianna Soria also reminded meeting-goers to call 911 if they see crimes being committed in the park. However, park-goers can report park graffiti or downed trees at the McKinley Park field house at 2210 W. Pershing Road, Chicago.

Gonzalez reported that in the first two months of 2025 — from Jan. 8 through March 11 — there were no shootings in Beat 912, which covers most of McKinley Park.

Thirty-One Arrests

However, police received 90 reports of shots fired and 11 sightings of persons with a gun. In that period, police made 31 arrests: three of people carrying a firearm and one for armed robbery, Gonzalez said.

Property crimes in this period totaled 60, Gonzalez said, including five motor vehicle thefts and seven burglaries.

The Chicago Police Department hosts community meetings every other month at the McKinley Park field house. The next Chicago Police Meeting for Beat 912 is at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2025.
