Donations Sought to Save Two Neighborhood Families from Evictions

Published August 27, 2020

McKinley Park Mutual Aid, an all-volunteer, grassroots group formed in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, is organizing to keep two McKinley Park neighborhood families in their homes. Facing eviction, the two local families need a combined additional $2,000 beyond the $400 the aid group has already collected for rent support.

"With community members out of work because of COVID and failed institutions, it has become increasingly difficult for families to have enough money to cover the rent needed," the group said in its call for donations. "Cases are still rising in Illinois, and there is still much need in our community."

Donations are accepted using the Venmo mobile application through the McKinley Park Mutual Aid account at venmo.com/mkp-support. Mobile device users can also scan the QR code included in outreach media to connect with the aid group's account and make a donation.

"We are so grateful so many of you came together to donate funds to help cover rent and utilities for our neighbors two weeks ago," the aid group said. "Now, two of our neighbors are facing rental eviction this month. Please consider donating any amount."
