9th District Police Seek Help Identifying Gas Station Thief

Chicago Police Department officers from the 9th District are asking for the McKinley Park neighborhood's assistance identifying a suspect in a theft at around 5:36 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at the Marathon Gas station at 1810 W. 35th St., Chicago. In the theft, pictured on surveillance video, a masked individual approaches the gas station owner's vehicle, opens the rear hatch and absconds with cases of cigarettes intended for sale at the gas station.

Based on the volume of the stolen cases depicted in the surveillance video, the cigarettes have an Illinois retail value of several thousand dollars.

"The store owner was unloading cigarettes that he had just purchased for the establishment when this occurred," detectives said in a statement. "Any help is always appreciated."
