I'm on the way to a Lunar New Year party with lots of friends and kids/teens attending, and I decided to try to get a break from the standard treacle-laden "traditional" Chinese New Year music.

I guess all of this is OK, and the moms love to swoon and sing along to the Wayne Newton-style crooners, but sometimes you gotta dance. It never hurts to sharpen up the scene with some hip hop, funk, neo soul and stripped-down trap from across the pond.

Here are some YouTube videos I found with music to add a little groove to the Lunar New Year celebrations. Enjoy!

The above selections are strictly Justin Kerr's and are not a measure of the total funkyness of the McKinley Park News.
