Great news! The swimming pool at Chicago's McKinley Park will remain open through Sunday, September 6, 2026: one of several public pools that will stay open to help beat the heat, the Chicago Park District announced.

At McKinley Park, the pool is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, with specific scheduled sessions :

Open Swimming

• 11 a.m. to noon and 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays-Fridays
• 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to noon Saturdays and Sundays
• 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. daily

Adult Swimming

• 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. daily

Family Swimming

• 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily

Lap Swimming

• 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays-Fridays
• 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays

This current schedule is extremely thoughtful and supports great use of the pool for the different folks who use it:

Families get big chunks of back-to-back sessions they and their kids can use to enjoy the pool: from 1:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 1:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

Adults can target 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays and mid-day on weekends for some pool time with contemporaries, especially if the kiddos don't make it to the 11 a.m. to noon Open Swimming on weekdays.

Athletes have 17 remaining sessions to work on their swimming, including  10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, and after-work sessions from 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Note that all sessions have 15-minute breaks where the pool is emptied of attendees before the next group enters.

Also, the pool entrance remains at the exterior pool area gate at the west end of the parking lot between the field house and West Pershing Road.
