Who Loves Halloween? McKinley Park Loves Halloween!

Published October 23, 2017

The McKinley Park neighborhood is gearing up for seasonal festivities centered around Halloween, already kicked off with the Hoyne Park Advisory Council's kids Halloween party and costume contest, held Saturday, October 21, at Hoyne Park. Children and parents enjoyed treats, crafts and a bounce house, as well as a costume contest with fierce yet very cute competition (winners below).

The Council's Halloween party is the first of a number of fun seasonal events for the neighborhood:

  • If you've ever wanted to sprint through McKinley Park with zombies at your heels, your best chance to do so will be at the McKinley Park Advisory Council's 5K Fun Run/Walk, starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, in McKinley Park. Costumes are encouraged at this event, as prizes will be awarded for best costume. Kids can enjoy free sprint races after the main 5K event. Same-day registration costs $15, but participants can pre-register for only $10 until October 27.

  • At 6 p.m. on Monday, October 30, little kids 5 and under can enjoy the Halloween Story Time & Parade, presented at the McKinley Park branch of the Chicago public library. This free event will offer a seasonally themed story for children, plus a chance to parade through the library: Attendees should come in costume!

  • On Halloween night, Tuesday, October 31, McKinley Park offers a couple of must-stop destinations for neighborhood trick-or-treaters:

First, the McKinley Park public library presents Art Club: Halloween Edition between 4:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., when kids 5 and under (and their parents) can stop in and create their own Halloween-themed craft.

Second, Bethany Harvest Fest looks to offer blowout all-ages fun between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church. Costumed revelers and neighborhood trick-or-treaters will enjoy this party that features a bounce house, games, popcorn and, of course, candy.

The Hoyne Park Advisory Council's Halloween party and costume contest featured a lot of fun for kids and adults:
