The video, retrieved from nearby residential security cameras, shows an area “that has been a problem for years,” said the local resident who provided the video to the McKinley Park News. “Good families I know have moved away from this area.”

As previously reported here in the McKinley Park News, 13-year-old neighborhood resident Eric Crawford was fatally shot on May 16, 2021, as he rode his bike on the sidewalk of the 3700 block of South Wood Street.

Police have not announced any apprehended suspects in the Crawford slaying, and the car used in the homicide was later found abandoned in an industrial stretch further on the Southwest Side.

Also as previously reported here, the intersection and blocks connecting West 37th and South Wood streets have often seen issues related to violence and gang issues, including drive-by shootings, evictions of gang members, other big shoot-outs and gang members cutting power to entire blocks’ street lights.

Ed. Note: This article has been updated to reflect that the shooting took place on Sunday, November 7, and not Monday, November 8, as previously reported, as reflected in recently-released crime reports.
