This Week Brings Baseball, Employment and Entertainment to McKinley Park

Omega Delta Youth Baseball & Softball League gets its season off to celebratory start on Saturday, April 20, with their Omega Delta Baseball Opening Day festivities. This includes a parade through the neighborhood starting at 11 a.m at the Target store at 33rd Street and Damen Avenue and ending at Hoyne Park, where the league, neighbors and friends can enjoy a full day of baseball games and fun.

Need a job? Find tons of employment options from employers who are ready hire at the National Latino Education Institute Job Fair, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the National Latino Education Institute at Pershing Road and Damen Avenue. At the fair, applicants can interview directly with decision-makers from multiple companies in one day at a single location, as well as attend seminars on networking and applying for job from the State of Illinois.

Marz Community Brewing Company lines up a number of great events this week. In addition to the standing Jazz on Marz with the Jazzeros on Wednesday night, April 17, the tap room is hosting the Marzcade Pentathlon on Thursday, April 18, pitting arcade masters head-to-head in a five game, genre-spanning contest to be the king of the Marzcade. On Friday night, April 19, let yourself out for Recess, a night of tormentor-style playground games accompanied by DJ tunes and performances.

Unique local gifts and goods are on offer alongside coffee and treats at the Arts & Crafts Indoor Market, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, at Kristoffer's Cakes. Check out the wares from local artisans and top off your trip with one of Kristoffer's sweet or savory treats.

Solving the Climate Challenge on Saturday, April 20, brings Justin Pelczarski, co-leader of the Chicago chapter of the Citizens Climate Lobby, to the McKinley Park public library for a talk on the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. Earlier that day, local green thumbs can help with the McKinley Park Communiy Garden Spring Work Day at the McKinley Park Community Garden at 38th Street and Damen Avenue.

The McKinley Park Development Council Meeting convenes at the field house in McKinley Park on Wednesday, April 17, to engage the community in critical community development topics and updates. Attend to participate in the McKinley Park Development Council's grassroots, collaborative process that brings all parties to the table to help shepherd neighborhood development.

Get your game on at Loteria Night at One City Tap on Tuesday, April 15. Four rounds of "the most competitive game" is available to adults 21 and over. On Friday, April 19, One City Tap hosts its weekly Karaoke Night, and on Saturday, April 20, the bar hosts the weekly Sabado Gigante dance party.

The McKinley Park public library continues its ongoing event series that appeal to youth and kids, including LEGO at the Libary on Tuesday, April 16, and Exploratorium on Wednesday, April 17.
