A shooting early in the morning of Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the 35th and Archer Orange Line El station at 3528 S. Leavitt St., Chicago, resulted in the death of a 26-year-old man, with suspected perpetrators fleeing on a scooter, according to police and public safety reports.

A blood trail in the path of the victim led from the west end of the El station property to its entrance, where a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) employee observed the man, who is African-American, walking toward the station and collapsing in front of its doors, stated 12th Ward Alderwoman Julia Ramirez in a public safety message.

Ramirez said that CTA video surveillance footage showed “a male, possibly Hispanic, in all black with a female, possibly Hispanic on a scooter … fleeing the scene” — information shared with the 12th Ward office by the Chicago Police Department’s 9th District, she said.

Continuing Investigation

The CTA employee heard a gunshot at the time of the shooting at 5:23 a.m., Ramirez posted, and the Chicago Fire Department arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased at 5:42 a.m.

The CTA stop has been set with limited access while a crime scene investigation takes place, with Chicago police continuing the investigation as of Sunday morning.

CTA Station Is Open

The CTA station remains open to customers, and services are still operating, Ramirez said.

This homicide is the first in Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood since January 13, 2024, when a man was shot and killed in the alley of the 1600 block of West 33rd Street.
