McKinley Park Man Charged with Murder in Orange Line Slaying

It started with harassment and a gun brandished on the Orange Line El platform at Roosevelt.

It ended three stops south with the shooting death of a 26-year-old African-American man in the early morning of Sunday, September 7, 2025, outside the 35th/Archer Orange Line El station.

The victim was harassing the alleged shooter and his girlfriend on the Roosevelt platform, then the shooter showed his gun, community policing Officer Carlos Aldana told residents on September 10 at the Chicago Police Meeting for Beat 912.

Exposed Himself to Girlfriend

The Orange Line train pulled into the platform, and all three boarded the same car, he said.

All three exited at 35th/Archer and were arguing outside the station, he said.

Alleged Shooter Identified

Just as the three walked out of camera range, the shooter fired and killed the man, Aldana said. A CTA station attendant heard the shot and called 911, and the shooter and the woman then escaped on a scooter.

The alleged shooter is known to police, with a number of arrests, Aldana said. He has not yet been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

Massage Parlor Prostitution

At the Beat 912 meeting, Aldana also noted the August 2025 closing of a massage parlor at 3667 S. Archer Ave., and the single prostitution arrest made during the latest crime reporting period of July 9 to September 9, 2025.

During this time within Beat 912, which covers most of Chicago’s McKinley Park neighborhood, 9th District police received 12 reports of shots fired and 18 calls reporting a person with a gun, Aldana said.
