News and events for Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO, June 4, 2019 — Local residents can get free access to post and manage classified ads on the McKinley Park News through the publication’s Neighbors program, announced Publisher Justin Kerr. The Neighbors program, available at no cost to verified residents of the McKinley Park neighborhood, provides unique online resources with the assurance of relevant and neighborly communication, Kerr said.

“The McKinley Park News is by and for the neighborhood,” Kerr said. “Our Neighbors program offers great tools for buying, selling and communicating that share the same hyper-local focus we place on our news and events coverage.”

Classified ads in the Neighbors program include Goods for Sale; Garage, Yard and Estate Sales; and Lost and Found Pets. Website members who have their accounts upgraded to a Neighbor level enjoy free access to post and manage as many classified ads as they’d like, Kerr said. All published ads are accessible to every website visitor.

In addition to classified advertising, a Neighbor account enjoys a highlighted presence and profile on the website, as well as access to additional account capabilities and website features like posting comments on articles.

“This is about establishing accountability toward enabling a high-quality – and manageable – online community,” Kerr said. “The hyper-local focus of our publication dovetails so nicely with the best interests of building these resources for the neighborhood.”

Residence within the coverage area of the McKinley Park News is required to be eligible for a Neighbor account. Website members can confirm their residency by displaying ID or other documentation at one of the many neighborhood events attended by the McKinley Park News.

“Look for our booth at the McKinley Park Farmers Market on most Sundays this summer,” Kerr said. “We’re also happy to rendezvous before or after one of the many neighborhood events we cover.”

The Neighbors program is unique in that it is the only channel that brings together these resources and information for the McKinley Park neighborhood, Kerr said. He also noted the publication’s strong protections for user privacy, and the website policies and member tools that support it.

“Unlike every popular social media service and supposedly community-oriented neighborhood website platform, we do not disgrace ourselves by treating our valued members and their data as chattel,” Kerr said. “Our product is based on trust, and this is reflected in every service we offer.”

In addition to classified ads for the Neighbors program, the McKinley Park News publishes ads for Volunteer Opportunities to support the dozens of local community groups participating in the publication’s free Institutions program. Help Wanted, Housing for Sale and Housing for Rent classified advertising is available to the Sponsors of the McKinley Park News.

Kerr shared one of his inspirations toward providing classifieds for the neighborhood. “Shortly after we moved to McKinley Park in 2008, our beloved pet cat Oscar slipped outside and ran off,” Kerr said. “We never found him, and I always wished for a better way to reach out to our neighbors.”

“The Pet Alerts classifieds now support getting the word out,” he said. “It will hopefully help other pet owners avoid this heartbreak.”
