Educators Honored at 50th Annual Civic Association Banquet
Now in its 50th year, the McKinley Park Civic Association's community celebration once again lauded the neighborhood's top educators and leaders at a banquet on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Parish hall in Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood.
Association Secretary Chris Bania noted the 50th Anniversary and said this was the 30th year in which the association has presented awarded top local educators for their excellent work.
"You educators go above and beyond," he said.

Award winners included Anthony "Tony" Muñoz, winner of the William H.G. Toms Community Service Award. The Outstanding Educators honored at the banquet were:

- Lucrecia Garcia of Blessed Sacrament Parish's religious education department
- Adriana Kenning of Nathanael Greene Elementary School
- Zachary Manta of Namaste Charter School
- Edward Miller of Thomas Kelly College Prep High School
- Tom White of De La Salle Institute
"I'm very proud to receive this award," said Adriana Kenning, a veteran teacher at Nathanael Greene Elementary School.
"She's a ball of energy," said Greene Vice Principal Myrna Villafuerte, who introduced Kenning. A colleague or family member introduced each teacher at the banquet and spoke of the excellent work they do at local schools.
Next Up: Memorial Day Parade
'He's the heart of our performing arts department," Kelly high school Assistant Principal said of Outstanding Educator Edward Miller.
The McKinley Park Civic Association's annual banquet takes place every spring, and the group meets monthly on the first Wednesday evening at the McKinley Park branch of the Chicago Public Library.
The association's next big event is the McKinley Park Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29, 2023. The group is calling for groups, bands and parade floats to march in the Memorial Day Parade.
