Performances and Community Engagement Fill This Week in McKinley Park

Theresa Mah hosts the 2nd District Office Open House on Thursday, September 5.The McKinley Park Farmers Market continues its final month of the season on Sunday, September 8, including a special performance of spectacular Japanese drumming during the Farmers Market Concert: Tsukasa Taiko. Grab some fresh local goods, produce, food and coffee, and take part in Yoga at the Farmers MarketBocce Ball and one of the Bird Walks from the Chicago Audubon Society. Neighborhood residents attending the market can also sign up to post free classified ads and enjoy other features of the McKinley Park News during Neighbor Account Signups.

Aquinas Literacy Center begins training its fall cohort of volunteer teachers at English Literacy Tutor Training on Friday and Saturday, September 6 and 7. Sign up to volunteer for this essential local program and become a certified tutor of English for new immigrants and English-language learners in our community. 

The National Latino Education Institute hosts an Air Quality Monitoring Day on Saturday, September 7, in cooperation with the Environmental Law & Policy Center. Participants will receive handheld air quality monitors to track air pollution around the McKinley Park neighborhood and report their results back to the program.

Illinois 2nd District State Representative Theresa Mah welcomes the public to her 2nd District Office Open House on Thursday, September 5. Attend the event to connect with Mah and community resources, as well as meet the new staff members who will be serving the 2nd District. 

The neighborhood's longest-serving community group reconvenes after its summer break at the McKinley Park Civic Association Meeting on Wednesday, September 4, at the McKinley Park branch of the Chicago Public Library.

Fun nightlife is lined up for the McKinley Park neighborhood this week, including the recurring Jazz on Marz with the Jazzeros on Wednesday, September 4, at Marz Community Brewing Co. Return to Marz Brewing on Thursday, September 5, and yuk it up at the tap room's Yeast Party Comedy Night.

One City Tap continues its weekly Karaoke Night on Friday, September 6. The Sabado Gigante all-night dance party on Saturday, September 7, brings rhythmic cumbia and other music to the Tap.

The Her Film Screening on Saturday, September 7, continues the Community Cinema series at the McKinley Park public library. Also at the library on Saturday, September 7, teens and adults can face off over new and classic board games at Drop-In Games. Seniors can get free help with computer and Internet basics at the  Senior Computer Workshop on Friday, September 6, at the library.
