Neighborhood Development Takes Front Seat This Week in McKinley Park

Attend to get a primer on TOD from members of the Metropolitan Planning Council and view potential neighborhood examples from the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP).

Our neighborhood's new industrial development is front and center at the MAT Asphalt Open House on Saturday, September 21, on Pershing Road between northbound and southbound Damen Avenue. MAT Asphalt invites the public to its open house to learn about its operations, tour the plant and meet business owners.

Marz Community Brewing Co. plays host to the Chicago Neighborhood Guidebook Release Party on Tuesday, September 17, featuring the premiere of the Chicago Neighborhood Guidebook. Marz Brewing keeps the fun running all week with Jazz on Marz with the Jazzeros on Wednesday, September 18, and DJ performances from Logan Bay on Friday, September 20, and Glenn Russell on Saturday, September 21.

One City Tap hosts regular weekly and monthly events this week, with Latin Nights with Sandra Magaña providing instruction in the cumbia style of music and dance on Thursday, September 19. The bar gets to gaming during Loteria Night on Tuesday, September 17, and swings to singing during its Karaoke Night on Friday, September 20. Celebrate the Autumnal Equinox on Saturday, September 21, at One City Tap's Sabado Gigante all-night dance party.

Senior and Library Events

The Chicago Park District's McKinley Park is sponsoring a number of new programs for senior citizens. Play Senior Club Bingo on Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the field house, and get fit at  Senior Strength & Conditioning Training on Mondays and Thursdays. The new, open-play Table Tennis schedule offers ping pong on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The McKinley Park branch of the Chicago Public Library continues its Community Cinema series with the Alice Through the Looking Glass Film Screening on Saturday, September 21. LEGO at the Library offers fun building and engineering challenges for kids on Tuesday, September 17.
